SMEX Bulletin on the Digital Safety of Displaced Persons During the Israeli War on Lebanon
May 5, 2026
SMEX, the platform dedicated to supporting digital safety in West Asia and North Africa, has released its monthly bulletin. This edition highlights its key initiatives and collaborative efforts to protect the digital security of displaced men and women in Lebanon amid the ongoing Israeli war on the country.
A primary area of focus is the collaboration with the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs to bolster the digital security of displaced individuals and their families. SMEX initiated this partnership as the Israeli war on Lebanon expanded in early March.
The platform’s activities also featured training sessions on the fundamentals of digital safety for displaced communities. During these sessions, SMEX provided practical and applied guidance, including assisting individuals in detecting misinformation, identifying and reporting phishing attempts, and managing fraudulent e-wallet requests and transactions.
Additionally, SMEX includes in this bulletin several critical guidelines for ensuring digital safety during wartime or throughout the period of the extended “ceasefire agreement” between Lebanon and Israel.
