I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Youssef. He was one of those rare individuals whose wisdom was matched by his gentleness. I had the privilege of working with him through our shared commitment to early child development at the CG and serving together on the Open Society ECD advisory group. He brought not only deep knowledge and unwavering dedication to children and families, but also a remarkable ability to listen thoughtfully, build bridges, and inspire others with quiet conviction.
What I will remember most was not only his professional leadership but also his humanity, and wonderful stories about Cyprus, a place he loved deeply and spoke with great affection. Those stories reflected the same generosity of spirit that he brought to his work and to his friendships.

Youssef leaves an extraordinary legacy as a champion of child rights and early child development across the Arab region and beyond. His vision, integrity, and lifelong commitment have influenced countless children and families. His legacy will continue to live on in the institutions he helped build, the people he mentored and the values he embodied.
