“Taawon Foundation”: Isnad Initiative to Support University Education in Gaza
21 January 2026
For the second consecutive year, the Isnad initiative, one of the Taawon Foundation‘s programs, continues to support university students in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, to pursue their education more than two years after the onset of the Israeli genocide. The initiative aims to collect donations for 500 male and female students in Gaza during the first three months of 2026. It also seeks to strengthen the resilience and continuity of universities in the Gaza Strip, bolster support for academics, curb brain drain, and enhance student access to higher education services by covering tuition fees and helping to release the withheld certificates of graduates.
This initiative comes at a time when the Israeli occupation army has destroyed more than 20 universities in Gaza, affecting approximately 88,000 students. This pattern of targeting is known in academic and legal circles as scholasticide. According to this concept, the occupation deliberately carries out the systematic and comprehensive destruction of the entire educational system, including the demolition of infrastructure and the targeting of human resources, such as students and teaching staff, similar to the practices inflicted upon schools.
