“The Alliance for Child Protection”: New Research on the Impact of the 2026 Funding Crisis

18 April 2026

The Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action has released a research paper titled “The Impact of Funding Cuts on Children and Their Protection in Humanitarian Contexts: An Analysis One-Year On (2026).

This research comes one year after the funding shocks that occurred in early 2025, which significantly affected the funding allocated to the early childhood sector, leaving devastating impacts on young children and their caregivers.

The research arrives at a fundamental conclusion: what began as a sudden financial disruption has now transformed into a systemic deterioration affecting child services and capacities across various humanitarian contexts. It presents critical, and in some cases distressing, figures, including a rise in recorded child protection violations over the past year, as reported by three-quarters of the research participants.
