The Tranquility of a Priest and the Warmth of the Presence (Rana Nashashibi/ Palestine)

It is very hard for me to imagine the world of early childhood or the Arab Resource Collective (ARC) without Youssef being a part of them.

A quiet man, beautiful in looks, character, and voice. The beauty of his face lay in that smile that never left him, making his entire face radiant. Even his eyes smiled. He was like a monk among us because he possessed the tolerance of angels. He disliked conflicts and problems, always seeking unity rather than discord. He would take on many tasks because they served the group. I do not recall Youssef ever refusing a burden if he believed it was beneficial to the group or the cause, and his cause was always early childhood, whether through ARC, regionally, or globally.

Beyond work and commitments, there were the wonderful gatherings that Youssef graced with his voice and presence, especially when he sang classic, authentic songs, and the songs of Sheikh Imam. These were an integral part of ARC culture and its beauty. After the daily grind, which often stretched into the night, we would refresh ourselves with gatherings filled with food and song. Youssef was always the one to animate these gatherings, for he knew the lyrics best. When our memories failed us or we stumbled over the words, he would continue.

We will miss you dearly, Youssef.
